Current Project

My current project is working with the elements of human activity and the idea that activity leads to traces. By setting up an installation that the viewer will be familiar with, my work encourages these day to day markings that we tend not to acknowledge to be revealed. In order to create such revealation, I work with both ultra violet lighting and paints.

The idea of using food and beverages within my work came about after resarching Yayoi Kusama's dining room installation piece.  A dining room is a place that has familiarity with many people which would ultimately contain a wide variety of human traces. With this in mind, I experimented with various food and drinks to see if it would react under UV lighting.

The above image shows experiementation with icecubes.  Through research I found the ingredient responsible for the glow is QUININE and this is found in tonic water.

Jelly cube made with tonic water

Cup Cakes (tonic water used in the icing)

Rice (boiled in tonic water)

Since experimenting with both food and drink I have decided to focus my work on creating drinks that react with UV lighting.  The reason for this being that the drinks showed better potential compared to the food experiments. I felt that this would also invite a larger audience, encorporating the best of my research findings and turning it into an interactive bar.

The following images show ongoing designs/plans of my exhibition space.

The images below show a voucher, business card design and banner that I am having professionally printed.  The voucher entitles the viewer to a free drink when handed over inside the installation.  The business card design shows what shall be avaliable for people to take if they wish and they shall be kept within the installation also .  The last image shows the design for the banner that shall be placed above the doors of my piece which will allow the viewers to know exactly where they are to go in order to get their free drink. The writing on the banner and the voucher is the same style which allows everything to tie in together.
