Artist Statement

'In Another Light’ explores how the element of regular/ordinary human activity leaves marks or traces. On a day to day basis, such traces or markings are often overlooked and become a part of life that we tend not to notice. With this in mind, my work is comprised of an interactive installation, representing a familiar environment to the viewer. By mimicking familiar surroundings, the piece approaches a realistic environment. Using a combination of ultra violet lighting and evidence of human traces, the audience are subjected to acknowledgement of the overlooked markings that are now made visible and will contribute to the piece through their own activity.

The revelation of the fingerprints to the audience is a large part of this piece which in effect disrupts the ordinariness of the surroundings. The idea of this piece is to allow the audience to enter a space with which they are familiar allowing them time to reflect upon what they have seen or ultimately what they don't tend to see from day to day.
